Herb,

Thanks for your response. I did create a new password during the dcpromo
process, but after attempting to login with that i still couldn't get in.
I
used Administrator as the user name and the same password along with the
new
Domain name. Should i be using a different user name? Thanks.

Read Paul's response (this thread) carefully.

And consider that I don't believe you actually GIVE a "user
name" to setup the Administrator password since that is assigned
to THE Administrator account which uses this name automatically
(unless changed.)

After installation you can certainly (once you logon as the
administrator) go back and create more administrator accounts
but during install you merely supply the passwords.

If Paul's idea doesn't lead to a solution then you might try typing
the name Administator since perhaps you typed the name (you
thought) of the account where you should have typed the password
itself.

Hi all. I'm a newbie to Win 2k3 server. Setting my first one up in a
test
environment and decided to run dcpromo from the run command and setup a
new
domain controller. After setting it all up and rebooting i'm prompted
to
login (this all is being done via RDP from an XP MCE laptop). I'm
prompted
with a user name, password and the newly named Domain i created. My old
Admin
and password don't seem to let me in. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
much.

Of course not, if you "old account" was on that Server specifically.

To logon to a DC you must supply an account in THAT SPECIFIC
domain (server accounts from before are lost) and if you created a
NEW domain you can only use admin accounts from the same forest.

During DCPromo you supplied a Domain Admin password if this was
a NEW domain or you must use the existing account from the domain
if this was merely an additional DC.

By the way, you also need to remember the local admin password
(AKA: Directory Services Admin Password) supplied by you during
DCPromo because if you ever need to perform offline service to the
DC you must have this.
