Re: Servers not appearing in AD

If this error is followed by 13509 you can safetly ignore it.

Check if FRS and DFS services are started, check if you can access to Sysvol
(type net share to see if sysvol is shared)

This is the error log that I get from our DC1:

The File Replication Service is having trouble enabling replication from
DC2 to DC1 for c:\winnt\sysvol\domain using the DNS name dc2.com. FRS will
keep retrying.

Following are some of the reasons you would see this warning.

[1] FRS can not correctly resolve the DNS name dc2.com from this computer.

[2] FRS is not running on dc2.com.

[3] The topology information in the Active Directory for this replica has
not yet replicated to all the Domain Controllers.

This event log message will appear once per connection, After the problem
is fixed you will see another event log message indicating that the
connection has been established.

did you created the accounts on other server in another site? If yes did
you already force replication between them?

Yes, I did that.

The attribute setting for "showInAdvanceViewOnly" was set to True,
which I've changed to <Not Set>, I even fiddled around to changing it
to False, but with no effect.

Do I have to wait for a certain amount of time for the changes to take
effect or should it be instantaneous?

When I said the attribute "showInAdvanceViewOnly" this was to look in
computer attributes and not in somewhere else.

No, I meant to say that I messed around with the settings, but
nothing populates.

As far as I know, even the DC was recently rebooted, but those 2
servers are nowhere to be found.

container?

I messed around with the attribute "showInAdvanceViewOnly" from
False to <Not Set> or True to <Not Set>, nothing changed.

Very odd....

Use adsiedit.msc to look for the computer object.
I recently saw here one similar situation that the computer
account only show if advanced view was enabled, if that is your
case you need to change the attribute "showInAdvanceViewOnly"
from TRUE to <Not Set>

No, All the servers except DC's are listed in the Computers OU,
which has about 55 objects in there.

Hello,

These are member servers that I've recently build with Windows
2003 SP1.

I've check in the DC and the Computers OU but none are listed,
I even tried using the "Find" function but none can be found.

I have other 2003 servers that populated in the AD, but as of
lately, the 2 new servers fails to show.

Thanks,
Steven`

Hi
Are you talking about member servers or DCs?

Did you checked in Domain Controllers OU (For DCs), and in
Computers "folder"?

I know this is kind of strange, but the last 2 servers that
we've recently built and added to the domain does not appear
in Active Directory.

The last 10 or so workstations that I've configure does
appear in AD, is this a bug?

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Steven`
