Re: Domain Controller DNS Error

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

The Windows Firewall service is disabled on all of my servers and I
have made the changes to DC1's client DNS settings. DC1 did have our
secondary DNS server and our ISP's DNS settins in it's client config
so I removed all of those and rebooted. I ran the netdiag and the
same errors are present. I ran it again with a /fix which did not fix
it. I tried accessing Eventwr from a Windows Server 2003 machine to
verify that it isn't the XP client and the same errors showed up
there.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Stan Cooper

Hi

I have a relitively small network with two domain controllers running
Windows Server 2003 SP1 and all of the up-to-date patches. The Forest and
Domain are 2003 Functional Level. DC2 is fully functional and is only the
Global Catalog Server.

Why only one? why not the 2? Won't cost you nothing making the two DCs.

On DC1 when trying to view Eventvwr from a client PC (running XP Pro SP2)
I receive a message that "The Network Path not Found."

Firewall enabled? If you disable the firewall the result is the same?
For DNS settings make sure that the client only uses the local DNS server
(don't place ISP DNS Server on clients NIC DNS Settings)
DNS server should point to itself only. (For internet resolution check
forwarding)
