Greetings all!
I have DomainA, DomainB, and DomainC all with political equivalence (Same
Tier Level) and I would like to set them up in Windows 2000 as AD with 2 way
transitive trust relationship. Do I need to establish a root or can I first
setup DomainA in a the new forest, DataNet.org:
DomainA.datanet.org
DomainB.datanet.org
DomainC.datanet.org
Each existing domain is a mix-mode environment. I setup DomainA first,
followed by an attempt to setup DomainB second but run into some problems.
Yes unfortunately since you already setup DomainA this is going to be
your first domain. in other words it will hold the Schema so therfore
it is te forest root domain. you can however join DomainB and DomainC
to the first domain up DomainA.
First is this the proper/practical method for this kind of Forest? Do I
have to establish a root domain, datanet.org, first before I can do
equivalent level DomainA,B,C? I hope not because I don't have a datanet.org
location, server, etc. I just want the 3 listed above in the same forest with
trust relationships. I current have the same 3 as NT 4.0 domains with
administrator configured 4.0 trust relationships. I just want the same
structure under AD with the advantages of transitive trusts. I this
possible? Do I use the Enterprise Administrator of DomainA when setting up
AD on DomainB to allow it to join the forest? The whold idea is to allow
each domain(tree) in the forest to share resources such as a intranet
site, etc. However each site needs to remain autonomous and seperately
managed by the resident Domain Administrator with backup administration
capability. Seems as if most are setting up a root, datanet.org then setting
DomainA, B, C as child domains. This is not practical for our organization.
Thanks to all taking on this challenge
