Hi
Inline
The first computer connected to the domain takes an inordinate amount
of time on reboot and login. On reboot, it sits at "Applying compuer
settings" for about two minutes. On login, it sits at "Applying your
personal settings" for about five full minutes.
This is generally bad DNS config. Make sure that the clients ONLY use in
their TCP/IP preferred DNS the SBS server.
I checked, and the only GPOs for both the computer and the user are the
default seven that are attached to the domain. There were no GPOs in
any of the OUs which the user or computer originally sat in. And if I
view the inheirtance tab, no more appeared there than the seven
attached to the domain.
so what is the problem? If you want you can add more to the OU, use GPMC.msc
I created a new top-level OU for both computers and users, then moved
the computer and the user to it. Oddly, this seemed speed things up a
bit, even though there were no more or less GPOs being applied now,
from what I could tell.
Is more probably that you have DNS bad configuration on clients check it
again.
In general, what else besides GPO application is happening at the"Applying computer settings" and "Applying your personal settings"
stages of reboot and login? Is there some other glaring activity which
could be the cause of the delay?

Group Policy objects are being applied, correct? From what I know about Active Directory, these are the points where
