i feel like hanging myself!

with the help of the dell engineers -- we examined my routing table on the
DC
in question and found a route for the local subnet going to the
router/firewall.

192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.80

This, as i know and just didn't realize, will cause local traffic to
unnecessarily go to the firewall then pass on thru to the host. My
checkpoint
firewall must have been discarding this traffic.

Once i deleted the static route from the routing table, all was good!

now i can start worrying myself with real AD issues, like replication and
dns
-- can't wait.
