Re: Upgrade FileServer to DC..while live?

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

....takes planning...
that's why I'm asking

currently all files and directories are set to everyone full control.
Clients us XP Home to access..(U/Grading to XP Pro ) If I flip to AD, will
they still have access ie does everyone still mean any host from anywhere,
or does some AD voodoo kick in.

Yes it will. You are moving from a workgroup to a domain. In an AD domain
you need DNS set up properly in order for your clients to find the domain.
Not to mention you will have to join your users to the domain, their
profiles will change.

Moving to a domain takes planning.

Have Windows Server Applicance Edition in small office running as File
server only.

Want to add AD. Wondering if this will cause problems for current
clients accessing files on the server. They all belong to the same
workgroup. just wondering if installing AD and upgrading to DC will
screw up current security settings, which are admittedly pretty
rudimentary.
