Re: Rejoining domains to new active directory .

Hi

If I understand you correctly, you had DC1 in a top root domain. Then you
created the DC2 and DC3 in a child domain, then you losed the top root
domain, installed a new top root domain in DC1 and you want to add the
existent child Domains to the new top root on DC1, is this correct?

If your answer is yes, then my answer is no, you can't do this. You can't
assign the existent child domain to the new forest. If you have a sysstate
backup from the top root domain, i suggest you to demote the newly installed
forest, and use the sysstate backup to recover the top root domain.

The forest top root domain is very important, without it you'll lose all
your other domains in your forest.

The distinguished name of the forest root domain is used to locate the
configuration and schema directory partitions in the namespace. The
distinguished names for the configuration and schema containers in Active
Directory always show these containers as child objects in the forest root
domain. For example, in the child domain child.domain.com, the distinguished
name of the Configuration container is cn=configuration,dc=domain,dc=com.
The distinguished name of the Schema container is
cn=schema,cn=configuration,dc=domain,dc=com.
The Enterprise Admins and Schema Admins groups are located in this domain.
