Re: Active dir upgrade w/ old PDC

user manager for domains WILL always target the PDC FSMO. In NT4 changes can
only be originated on the NT4 PDC or the AD PDC FSMO if the NT4 PDC was
upgraded (as is needed for an in-place upgrade)

Thanks for the reply Jorge. Let me try to clarify my question. I had 4NT
domains. One of them has been upgraded to w2k3 AD. The remain 3 NT
domains
will be upgraded gradually over the next six weeks. My old NT domain
controller still list the upgraded domain and all of it users and
computers
in User manager. If one of my support people blindly and somehow forgets
that we have to use Active Directory users and groups in the new domain
and
resorts to the old Domain controller to modify the user's account will it
work? HOW will l a change made from an NT domain controller using user
manager affect an active directory account. I am hoping that this type of
change would fail because NT is unaware of Active Directory but hesitate
to
test in fear that it will break something.
Thanks in advance for reading this and helping
Kyle

what do you mean with

one of the old pdcs could be used in an attempt to modify users or
groups"

as you upgrade a nt4 domain, the PDC is upgraded from nt4 to w2k3.

I don't understand the problem.

We have a multiple NT domain structure that is being upgraded to Active
Directory slowly. One of the four domains have been upgraded. The
four
domains have a complete trust relationship and the other three will
upgraded
gradually over the next two weeks. What happens if someone uses the
old
PDCs
to attempt to modify a user or group in the new active directory
domain?
The
old domains can still see the new active directory and user manager on
one
of
the old pdcs could be used in an attempt to modify users or groups.
Will
this simply fail or screwup the active directory account?
