Re: Error when joining member server

Turns out it was a VLAN misconfiguration on the switchport. But the DNS
resolution was functioning normally. I wish i would have gotten the normal
"Cannot find domain.com" error :(

Problems joining Computers to domain are generally caused by bad DNS
configuration, or you could have any FW between your DC and Workstation
that prevents this.

...I'm trying to join a computer to a domain. Not promoting a child
domain or additional tree.

I have no problems joining other computers to the same domain, just this
one. I have not changed anything on the machine's default configuration
beyond installing the network adapter drivers; no security templates/GPOs
have been applied yet, because it cannot join the domain.

I don't need to run dcdiag and netdiag, because the problem is not on the
domain controller. However, when I do run them there are no errors; all
DCs pass all tests (except for services due to w32tm service on some
DCs).

Like I said I have had this problem only on this server, but across
different media sets (I've reinstalled from bare metal 3 times).

Let's go back to the beginning:

- First run Dcdiag and Netdiag tests on the existent Dc.

Dcdiag /c /v /e

Netdiag /debug

Check for output errors.

- You're trying to add a new domain - child domain, new tree, additional
Dc to an existent domain?

- Is the new domain on a different subnet?

- Did you configured Dns Service on the new DC?

Please try to give more details about your current configuration, and
what you're trying to accomplish

i've got lots of errors in event viewer, but only when i'm trying to
join the domain; this is on the same vlan subnet as the domain
controller:

member server: ..97.124
domain controller: ..97.250

on same switch, no router in between.

Getting an odd error with the network config and joing it to the
domain, until today when I was able to (barely) work around it,
despite 3 different installs from 3 different media sets.

The error is: "An error occurred attempting to join the domain
domain.com: Service did not respond to the start or control request
in a timely fashion."

Staging a server that is an exact hardware duplicate of another
server on our network, no problems with the previous server
whatsoever. Same network driver and everything. No problems with DC,
have joined other machines successfully today. I'm at my wits end,
any help is much appreciated.
