if the zones are configured for AD integration all the records within the
zones will replicate to the new server...
as the old DC is not available anymore the servers and clients pointing to
the old DC/DNS will not be able to resolve DNS names if they are not
configured with an alternate DNS server.
you could plan this off hours...
demote the w2k and remove from domain...
install w2k3, use same name and IP, install additional services (e.g. DNS)
promote to DC, and do whatelse you need/want to do

Currently right now I'm about to the promote a Win 2k3 Member Server to a
DC
in my current domain transfer the FSMO Roles to the Win2k3 DC. After this
is
complete I plan to demote the current Primary DC and Install Win 2k3 on
the
server. Later this server will be promoted to a DC. My goal to upgrade
all
DC's to Windows Server 2003. My promblem is this, the Primary DC that I
will
be demoting is also the Primary DNS Server and has the AD Integrated
primary
zone in DNS. The Win Server 2k3 DC will also have an AD Integrated Zone
DNS
Server. I do have replicate with all DNS Server AD, will all Host Records
be
transferred to the new Primary DNS Server on Windows Server 2k3 DC? Also,
I
have a lot of servers hard coded with the old DNS IP address of Win 2k DC
that will be demoted, how will those server be affected?
Thanks for all help
