i want to join a winXP client in a domain for apply group policies

the problem is that the domain controller isn't in the local area network
but in another subnet connecetd with router

how can i obtain the name of the DC while joining the client?

i have to do this operation locally or there is a solution to do it in
remote lan? (for example modify the file lmhosts....)?
