Jorge Silva and Jorge de Almeida Pinto,
Thank you for your great help and your expertise and time. I'll appreciate
it so much.
one question to ask:
(4) forestprep for exchange 2003 should preferably be done when you only
have w2k3 dcs because it changes the partial attribute set (PAS). when the
PAS is changed w2k GCs do a full GC rebuild and w2k3 GCs only do a partial
rebuild
You mean I run exchange forestprep when I have ONLY windows 2003 DCs. (no
more windows 2000 DCs coexist)? If I introduce one Windows 2003 DCs for
root and child domain into windows 2000 envir. (widows 2000DCs exists), can I
run exchange 2003 forestprep? Any link or docs will be appreciated.
THANK YOU THANK YOU!

(1) the system state will backup everything within the system state, no.
matter where it is hosted
(2) before disconnecting both DCs do a full sync.
restore option A: force demote all DCs in both domains except the
disconnected DCs. Connect the disconnected dcs to the network, seize FSMO
roles, cleanup the metadata of the demoted DCs, force replication between
both backup DCs and promote all servers again to DC
restore option B: do a NON-AUTH restore on all DCs except the disconnected
DCs. Connect the disconnected dcs to the network
before doing the schema change you could also disable replication on the
schema FSMO.

(3) yes, and if everything looks OK on the schema FSMO enable repl again

search the newsgroup as this has been answered quite a lot of times!

Hi all,
In a few days I am going to run win2003 forestprep and domainprep. The
mangled issue has been addressed already. I plan to take one DC from root
and one DC from child domain offline. Also, I'll do system state back up
on
two DCs from root and child domain. (BTW, we are win2K and exch 2K envir.
one forest and one root and child doamin)
Questions:
1) The sysvol and log located on the different drive. Will the system
state backup that will cover all AD info in the differnt drive? Do I need
to
backup Sysvol and LOG drive seperatly? Should I ghost the images?
2) In case something turns bad, I need to roll back. Should I use the
offline DC to seize the roles and recover or I perform recovery from the
system state backup?
3) In terms of upgrading, should I disbale outbound and inbound
repplication on the schema master in addtion to taking one DC offline?
4) If everything turns fine, should I run exchange 2003 forestprep and
domainprep after win2003 adprep or should I wait until all DCs get
replication from Win2003 forestprep and doaminprep?
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND HELP!
