Hi

what happens if you run ldp.exe on the WinXP box
and attempt to connect to the ADAM instance on
the W2K3 box using the account you created,
can you see the naming contexts?

I'm trying to set up an ADAM replica instance and I'm getting the
dreaded "replication credentials are invalid or not sufficient". This
is in our test lab. What's even more maddening is that the exact same
steps worked on two machines on the subnet in my office. Here is the
environment:

1. Test lab has a Windows domain with 1 Win 2003 domain controller
2. Unique ADAM instance is installed and functional on a stand-alone
Win2003 server joined to the domain
3. I added a domain user (lets call him TESTLAB\user) to the
Administratiors role on the unique ADAM instance on the 2003 server
4. I'm trying to install a replica instance of ADAM on a Windows XP Pro
(SP2) box joined to the same domain

here is what I am doing to install the replica instance:

1. I log into the XP box as TESTLAB\user, who I just added to the
Administrators role on the unique instance
2. I've tried creating the replica instance of ADAM on XP via an
unattended install and by using the Start -> Programs -> ADAM -> Create
ADAM Instance wizard.
a. The unattended install fails with "Replication credentials are
invalid ...." in the ADAM installer results registry entry
b. When I run the create instance wizard, I specifically enter
TESTLAB\user and a valid password for the account when prompted for a
user who has replication/administrative priviledges for the
configuration set. I still get "Replication credentials are invalid
..."

I tried step 2b again, this time I created a local user on the machine
where the unique ADAM instance resides and added it to the
Administrators role, and tried those credentials in the wizard - same
result.

So, I'm started thinking that this is an authentication issue and that
the XP machine cannot confirm the credentials with the domain
controller. But, I created a share on the 2003 server with the unique
ADAM instance and I could access it from the XP box by using
TESTLAB\user credentials.

Are there any other causes of the "Replication credentials are
invalid..." eror that I might be missing?

As I said, I created a similar environment in my office (XP and 2003
box hooked up to a hub on a subnet - 192.168.0.x) and it worked.
