I discuss this search flag in the book in the signature.
It is only good for one level queries - a query against objects in a single container.
Define excessive time.
What is the exact search parameters... scope, filter, base, port, etc.

I'm having an issue where a particular 3rd party product is taking an excessive time performing a search against the (healthy) AD..
I was thinking about potential causes and resolutions (turns out the attribute is indexed and replicated to GC which were my first ideas), and came across the schema attribute property "Index This Attribute For Containerized Searches In The Active Directory"?
The only reference I can find to this is (from on-line copy of "Inside Windows Server 2003");
"The search routines provided in the LDAP API and with Microsoft ADSI permits searching a container rather than the entire directory. You can select this option to improve lookup times for container searches."
I think I understand what this means, but can anyone provide a more detailed explanation, or example of where it is applicable? (I don't think it's useful in my case, but my interest has been pricked).
Thanks.
