it is a bit confusing...
reading you post I think.."oh he doing a MIGRATION"
then I continue reading..."no, he doing an UPGRADE"
I still think it is the UPGRADE? Right?
Is it true your current NT4 NetBIOS domain name has a dot in it? To be
honest, I personnaly have never seen an NT4 domain with a point (.) in it. I
guess things CAN go OK, but you MIGHT also expect some funny stuff with name
resolution.
I know several other folks have had the same question, but unfortunately I
don't know their experience of having a dot in their NetBIOS domain name and
upgrading to AD.
You could also create a new post with a subject like "dot in NetBIOS NT4
domain name and in-place upgrade to AD (experience?)"
This should get some attention and hopefully some answers!
Not talking the current domain name into account....
Yes if your NetBIOS domain name is XXXXXXXXX and you upgrade to AD and
assign a DNS domain name of XXXXXXXXX.YYY, then your current servers en
workstation will switch automagically. No need to worry about that!
By removing the NT4Emulator key, the W2K3 DCs accept "kerberos
communications". As soon as w2k/wxp/w2k3 clients and servers communicate
with the w2k3 dcs they will keep communicating with the w2k3 dcs and never
use the NT4 DCs anymore (those only talk NTLM)

Jorge:
Thanks for the input! Great link, wish I'd seen it earlier!
My Computer>Properties>Computer Name - Domain: abc.com
My Computer>Properties>Computer Name - Full Computer Name:
Computer.abc.com
If the new W2K3 AD Domain Name is: corp.abc.com, should it now appear
for all workstations, and servers automatically, or do they have to be
manually removed from abc.com, and added to corp.abc.com:
My Computer>Properties>Computer Name - Domain: corp.abc.com
My Computer>Properties>Computer Name - Full Computer Name:
Computer.corp.abc.com
Where do the servers, and workstations get this new domain information
from?
"If everything is OK remove the NT4Emulator and NeutralizeNT4Emulator
registry keys from the fresh installed w2k3 servers (now DCs). Reboot
the servers one by one. If you have w2k/wxp/w2k3 clients and/or servers
these will start using kerberos authentication as soon as these the
w2k3 DCs." - Does removing these registry keys cause servers and
workstations to join the new W2K3 AD Domain: corp.abc.com, or simply
allow them to communicate with new W2K3 AD DCs?
