Re: Deleting old Exchange server in AD - Confusing message encount

In news:AF05B28A-93BA-4604-A876-C56C585CCD55@xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Nick-Mars <nickmars@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented on below:
Sorry for the delay in responding to your response. For some reason
I am not notified when someone responds to a posting.

1rst. Thanks for the response.

2nd. Public folders were all moved. Not sure what you mean by hidden
system folders. The old server no longer exists and has been rebuilt
for another purpose. I am concerned about deleting it from AD. I've
read the article you suggested. Unless I missed something I don't
think it answers my question.

To answer your original question, which relates to my original
response/question, "Did you also move all the public and hidden system
folders too?", is very important. Why?? The hidden system folders contain
organizational data, such as the Free/Busy service container (folder).
Without this, the system cannot keep track of meeting requests conflict
resolution, among other things. There are other system specific folders that
are only created on the very first Exchange machine installed into an
organization, and are very difficult to recover, but can be done, by a
variety of methods (some of which are tricky), one of them using a GuidGen
tool along with ADSI Edit and LDP, etc.

As far as the answer to the limited question you've asked, YES, you can just
hit 'YES' to that question, provided you've moved all MBX, Pubs, AND the
Hidden System folders.

But what worries me is that you are not aware of what a hidden system folder
is. That is why I needed to explain this info and, the original reason WHY I
provide that article for you that explains how to move them. But if you've
already decommissioned the very first server and is now completely gone, and
you didn't move the system folders, then we've got an issue...

I can provide some articles on how to recover them if you need.
