Naming Standards

I'm looking into coming up with a new naming standard for my organization.
I'm having some trouble with the computer one as I've read that
computernames should not contain hyphens, underscores, and other characters
as they may cause problems with DNS servers. I also read to not start a
computername with a number. Our current standard starts with a number and
then has an immediate hyphen afterwards. The number can be easily prefixed
with a A-Z character, no problem - but, will hyphens/dashes potentially
cause problems with DNS servers?

Also, does anyone include the group scope in their group naming convention
(dl, g, u)? And lastly, do group/printer/share/etc. objects have
restrictions like the computername does (can't start with #, no dashes, no
spaces, etc.)?

Thanks
