Re: shadow copy in server

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Give it a try Steve. Set up the scenario and try all the possibilities you
aren't sure about. The best way to learn is to do it..

Cheers

so u mean if i have a file in a folder and gets deleted and wanted to
retrieve back, i will have to use the properties on the folder(parent
directory) to retrieve this deleted file?
am i rite/

Yes, that why I wrote:

You use the properties of the PARENT DIRECTORY to
recover deleted files since the original is no longer there
to give you a place to work.

Hi Steve,

Is it OK to have the copies on the same drive as the data although
you
will
get better performance if the copies are on seperate physical disks.

You will not see the files as they are part of the system,

Not sure what you mean by your 3rd question. Do you mean if the
original
files are deleted? If this is the case you will be able to retrieve
from
the
shadow copy as the copy is of the volume at a specified time so if
the
file
existed at this time it will be available for retrieval.

Hi,

i have turn-on shadow copy on a server local drive d:

The 'storage area' is also in d: drive.
1) is it ok the storage area is the same as the drive i turn-on for
vss
2) Y i don't see any physical file for vss in the 'storage area',
like
backup file normally they have a *.bkf
3) when right click properties on a file, under the tab 'previous
version',
i can retreive the different version. But if this file is deleted,
how
am
i
going to retrieve this file back.
