I have a small network with one Windows Server 2003 Standard and five
Windows
XP workstations. I have setup all users and workstations into one OU and
applied various Group Policy settings. Also, I have set a path for
Roaming
Profiles for each user.
When I setup a user, I make all the necessary changes (setup the desktop
shortcuts, appearance, etc.) that I would like all users to have. When I
am
done with the changes I logout the user and from the server, I copy the
entire contents of that users profile to another user in the same OU. I
reset all NTFS permissions so the Administrators group, SYSTEM, and that
user
have 'full control' over the folder and its sub contents. Also, I set the
owner of the folder to the Administrator's group and check; 'replace owner
on
sub containers and objects'.
When I login as the newly setup user, the desktop looks the exact way it
should. However, none of the group policy settings are in effect. For
example, the user can open the control panel whereas the initial setup
user
can not.
Any ideas what could be causing this lack of group policies taking effect?
I have even tried recreating a new OU.
The first step is to find out if the second user is having the
GPOs applied. Probably easiest is to logon as the (problem)
user and run GPResult, but running RSoP or GPResult
centrally CAN work.
Users must authenticate properly to get GPOs reliably.
