You aren't wrong but do the clients have access to a working dns server to
find another Domain Controller? Clients find the DC services via DNS.

After a DC failure, what should be the behaviour of a client that has been
authenticated by the failed DC?
We're running W2K AD - after a DC failure last night our NAS boxes at the
site of the failed DC appeared not to be able to authenticate. I had
always
presumed that if a DC failed, its clients would find another DC. Am I
wrong
in this assumption?
