Those steps will work fine. As DCPROMO will automatically transfer the FSMO
roles to another DC in the site of the DC you are demoting. However, you
need to give thought to GC and DNS placement.

Realistically, the first DC in a forest is "special" in as much as it holds
all the FSMO roles and is automatically configured as a GC. It is usually
configured as a DNS server too.
