Re: DNS Problem????

I've done that, but i have a problem: most computers have windows 2000
professional and the policy only applies to Windows xp and 2003.

Now, what can i do???

In computers with windows xp worked fine.

What is your DNS suffix search list? If you have not set it you can do this
by GPO. Either create a new GPO or edit the GPO that is linked to where your
computers are

Computer Configuration\Administrative templates\Network\DNS Client\DNS
Suffix Search list

Add your domain names e.g.
child1.mydomain.com, child2.mydomain.com, mydomain.com

Reboot PC or wait for GPO refresh
Do an Ipconfig /all to check DNS suffix has taken effect
Repeat ping exercise - does it work?

Cheers,

Thank you Jerome for your help.

About the first part:
ping dc4 (DC for Child2) - could not find host
Is this situation nomal or not?Can i consider it an error???
Shouldn't it work whitout doing nothing more, like adding the other domain
dns as part of the suffix list of that computer??

Second Part:
The log on script is triggered from the ad propertie logon script.

It happens that Ricardo formulated :

Hi,

Hi,

This is the situation:
Windows 2003 forest with 3 domains: MyDomain.com, Child1.Mydomain.com and
Child2.Mydomain.com.

I have 2 DC's for each domain.
The DNS is set in both DC's of the MyDomain.com domain.

Problems:
1. In computers in domain Child1, cant' ping DC's of Child2 domain, but only
if i put netbios name.
Examples:
In a computer in domain Child1 (pc1.child1.mydomain.com):
ping dc1 (DC for Mydomain.com) - success
ping dc3 (DC for Child1) - success
ping dc4 (DC for Child2) - could not find host
ping dc4.child2.mydomain.com - success

Why it only works with the servers FQDN???

Because your machine when interrogating the DNS add to the machine name
its DNS domain name or the DNS domain name of its parent domain.

2. In the same example, when a user from Child2 domain logs on pc1(computer
on Child1 domain), the logon script is not executed. Why?
If the same user logs on a computer in Child2 domain, the logon script works.

How is your logon script triggered (GPO or just AD propertie logon
script)?

Please, give me some ideias on how to work around this problems.

Thanks

Jérôme
