Re: User Name Not Found

Bernard,

Looks like you have a nice situation! I know the feeling all to well.

Al gave you the right information. Look at the event ids in the event logs.
If you need help figuring out what they mean then go to
http://www.eventid.net. You would just enter in the event id (such as
13528) and it will take you to a second page where you can click on the
'comments and links' link to take you to a page where people have posted
their resolutions to clearing up that event id. Just know that if you see
M322267, for example, and click on it that it will tell you this is only
available to subscribers. All you have to do is go to the
http://support.microsoft.com and then search for 322267 (simply remove the
'M'....). In fact, you can use the link that I have provided below.

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=322267

So, if you had an event id of 9087 and you entered that at
http://www.eventid.net and you saw M357852 you would simply strip the 'M'
out of there and, using the link above, go to
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=357852 (just made this one up...it does not
exist so this link will not work).

When using http://www.eventid.net just make sure that you really pay
attention to the source. A good example is here:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1030

There are a lot of different 'source' descriptions in here.

Also, I would make sure that DNS is in order. Al was, naturally, correct
with this. Install the Support Tools from the Service Pack CD-Media (do not
use the one located on the Windows 2000 Server CD....it is old and there are
some known problems with some of the utilities....dcdiag being one of the
utilities where there is a problem). This will really help. repadmin
and/or replmon will help with the replication errors. dcdiag /c /v would be
a good place to start (after looking at the event logs).

Also, just make sure that there is no 'single-label' domain situation (where
the domain's "DNS Name' was set to yourdomain instead of yourdomain.com or
yourdomain.local....).

Hi All,

my company has a windows 2000 server running as domain controller and
another windows 2000 running as backup domian controller. I am having a
problem with user account creation. I have to create the same user account
in
both domain controller and if not some user might not be able to log in to
the domain controller.

I find out from the technical guy before me, he say we have no DNS server
running locally in our LAN and the only DNS we use in our ISP's DNS server
jsut for the online purpose.

Was the problem due to the both domain controllers didn't setup correct to
recognise each other or we need DNS server running locally in our LAN or
any
other problem I didn't think of ? any help is very very much appreciated.

Thanks and Regards.
