The two instances authenticate to each other as their service accounts. The
authentication will only succeed if the two machines trust each other. I.e.
it won't work without a domain trust.

You could also look at pass-through athentication
(msDS-ReplAuthenticationMode=0 -- search the docs), but it only works
between non-joined machines, and generally, I would not recommend going down
this route.

i have 2 different Windows 2003 AD domain (domain1 and domain2) in to
different site linked with a 10Mbit cable witout a domain trust.

In the domainA i have 2 ADAM istance in replica and i would like install
another 2 ADAM instance in domainB for replicate the same application
partition in domainA for a "backup"

The question is :

with 2 different domain can i setup another 2 ADAM istance in a domain2
for replica ? How work the autentication for ADAM replica ?
