PAUL - What benefit would R2 have on a domain controller?

R2 on a DC is probably not much different to on a member. Most, if not all of the features, are not specific to a DC (not 100% sure if ADFS has some dependencies on DCs or not). However, in order to use SFU, DFSR, etc. you need to extend the schema to be able to use these.

I think that if you are going to be doing the ADPREP for k3, you might as well do it for k3 R2. Save having to go through all the testing and preparation for a schema extension again in the future. Assuming you haven't just exhaustively tested k3 ADPREP.
