I am experiencing a similar issue and have not been able to fix it. I
think the problem is related though (Migration from Novell).
Server: Windows: 2003
Active Directory: 2003 Native Mode
Problem:
When trying to change users passwords, I get an error that says,
"Windows cannot complete the password change for %username%
because:
The system cannot find the file specified."
I have searched all over on-line and found several references to the
problem being caused by Novell properties on the user account. I have
used adsiedit and determined that the Novell properties mentioned do
not exist. I have also run the following command which did not help,
"Net user %username% /fpnw:no" That command is supposed to remove
Netware properties from a given user account...
This problem does not occur on all computers. I can reset passwords
just fine from my laptop and from a VM on a desktop. From the desktop
where the VM can reset passwords, I cannot reset passwords from the OS
within the desktop itself. I can reset the password directly from any
Domain Controller without problems. There are many other computers
from which I cannot reset passwords.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to fix this?
These are some of the sites/threads where I have followed all
suggestions and still been unable to solve the problem:
