Re: RPC Replication over Satellite Links

Hi Herb and Mulnick,
Thanks for input. Yes you are indeed right on the SMTP replication
requirements. The design we have in mind involved DCs of the same domain
spanning across those sat links, so RPC is going to be needed. Well, at
least for this customer the satellite is in a fixed position. Anyway, we are
planning for actual tests after Christmas breaks. We'll see how goes then.

Btw, we also read of the fact that W2k3 with SP1 dynamically adjusts the
send buffers (but also dependent on the memory size) to accommodate for
connections with high latencies, not sure if that will have any positive
bearing on this scenario.

Cheers.

You are probably on the INSIDE of the borderline where it will likely
work. Try it. Setup a test domain and just do it.

If you get a few errors but it generally works you can likely
live with that.

The problem with SMTP replication is that it requires different DOMAINS
(by design) and so only replicates forest wide information.

One thing you don't mention: Is the satellite connectivity consistent
or at least at predictable times?

(I have one client whose African remote sites get a different satellite
"time window" each day since the satellite is not geosynchronous but
change location/time each day.)
