Replication between sites

We have a remote site with its own DC operating as a global catalog for that
site. Our PDC emulator is on a different site and differnet subnet than this
site. If a password change for a user account is made on this remote DC does
it trigger a replication event to the PDC emulator immediately or do you have
to trigger it manually or wait for normal replication?
