Logon problem

We have a windows 2003 server and have configured it as a primary domain
controller and a standalone domain "testdomain".
We have made another windows 2000 server to join the testdomain.
After doing the required configurations, I was able to login to the domain
controller
from the client (windows 2000 server m/c).
Suddenly, today Iam not able to login (from the client) with any newuser ids
created in the testdomain.
Surprisingly, all the login attempts with the old users created until
yesterday gets through successfully.
Iam just not very sure where to check why the new users login attempt fails
when some users which were created earlier can get through.
Some error says in the event log , that the Global catalog is not reacheable.
Someone has installed an application software in the domain controller which
might have changed some settings.
Iam a newbie using AD stuff.
Any ideas to track and trouble shoot is greatly appreciated.
