To make sure I have the right question, the configuration is as follows:

Name in Location Roles
DC1.MF.COM in London. DC, DNS
DC2.MF.COM in London. DC, DNS
S1.MF.COM in Cambridge FS (file server)
S2.MF.COM in Edinburgh FS

Single DFS root spanning > 100 folders.

I believe you can run the ROOT either on the DC or the FS. The right
question I believe is whether you want to access this DFS root|namespace in
London, Cambridge, and Edinburgh. If so and you want to cut the traffic
down, you'll want the DFS namespace hosted on a server in all 3 sites

see (if running WS2K3 R2 but, still related to WS2K3)
