Restoring an earlier version of AD

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

I have got eight AD sites each one with a DC.
I could imagine a situation that could occur(human error) where the AD in
each of these sites gets corrupted in some form or other and that I would
like to go back to an earlier version of the AD(from a backup)

I imagine that I would restore the AD backup to one site and wait for it to
be replicated to the other sites. But wait ......if I'm correct that would
not happen. The other sites would see the restored version as....just
that....an earlier version and that they have got the most recent
version....so the older version would get overwritten.

Am I correct in this logic? If I am how do I ensure that the restored AD
becomes the "latest version" and overwrites the AD in the other sites.

Many thanks.
