Hey, back again. Well, I checked and the XP clients aren't getting the DNS
settings. I dont think it has anything to do with the fact that these users
are local admins, cuz other GP settings work. Most of the clients have
static TCP/IP info (DHCP clients get correct DNS from DHCP server) but their
DNS server settings boxes are not grayed out with GPO's set DNS servers
'permanently' entered, as it seems they would be. In other words, I can
click in the box and enter other IP addresses. I've forced the update on
both the DC and clients, but still nothing. GPResult tool on a client
reveals in Computer Settings --> Administrative Templates the following TWICE:
GPO: Default Domain Policy
Policy: Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\DNSClient
Status: Enabled
I've actually now set it at both the OU level and in Default Domain Policy.
Both GPO's also have "No Override" set - does that matter here? FYI, I have
another OU with the same desired DNS setting and it doesnt work for the PCs
in that OU either. Event Viewer on the DC just says 'security policy applied
successfully' in the Application log. Client's Event Viewer doesnt have
pertinent info, even after running GPUpdate. Is there maybe another setting
to enable that this on depends on?
.
