Hi,
Win 98 is evil for stealing the Master Browser Role and messing up Network
Browsing. First of all, make sure your DNS is setup and working fine with XP.
The backup browser issue is a common one. I have never had a domain that
didn't have it and I have done a clean install of every domain both Windows
2000 and Windows 2003. The only solution I figured out was to disable the
"computer browser" on every machine except the DC's. However, I don't know if
you can disable services in Win 98. It has been too long.
Try connecting via DNS on the XP Machines. Also, are they joined to the
domain? Make sure the WINS server is in the IP address of the XP along with
the IP of the DNS server.
