unfortunately ADSIEdit does not support binding over SSL.
The WinXP specific things to look at in the start_here.htm file
are:

Running Active Directory Application Mode on Windows XP Professional
(note the ForceGuest registry key)

Allowing the setting of passwords over a non-SSL connection
(try allowing this)
