I have 3 DCs in our domain. When I disconnect our PDC intentionally (the first DC in our domain), client machines seem to take few seconds to locate the other DCs for authentication. Is this normal? If so, is there anyway to get around this problem?
So you disconnected a DC BUT did you also have all the other services this DC may offer available for all the clients to use when it is off line, such as DNS, WINS etc etc ?? It is not just about AD redundancy but all the supporting infrastructure services must be redundant too.
I don't have any service running on this DC other than AD and file sharing.
WINS is running on this DC, however, none of our desktop machines are configured to use WINS for netbios name resolution.
