There is no way to disable a group that I know of.
I suggest you move all the groups in question into an isolated OU.
Wait for end to end replication to complete.
Do a system state backup of one of your DCs.
Then delete the groups.
If someone complains, it is a trivial matter to restore the groups in
question.
reboot into DS restore mode.
restore the system state backup.
Mark the desired groups to restore as authoritative.
