OptionalNames on a DC
Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

A small client of mine is replacing a server that is both a DC and a
file server at one of their locations. Seems straightforward enough,
but there's a small glitch: They don't want the server name to change.
More specifically, they don't want to have to re-create any shortcuts
or the like that reference the old server name (let's call it
OLDSERVER).
I've found information on the OptionalNames value (see URLs below), and
have used this trick successfully on member servers in the past.
However, this server is also a DC. Anyone have any thoughts on what
effect the OptionalNames value would have on a DC? Keep in mind that
I'll also need to alias OLDSERVER in DNS to NEWSERVER's IP address.
More information on OptionalNames:

TIA.
