Could be a GUI thing, I really don't use ADUC much so I am not positive. Try to use adsiedit or some other LDAP tool to modify the membership and see if it allows you to do it.

Ok, it looks like we are running in Windows 2000 Native mode. Now according to my research on this, this allows universal groups, and even converting security groups to distribution groups and vice versa. So I am still not sure why I am having this problem. Any ideas?

Are your domains in native mode?
What mechanism are you using to do the mods?

Hey guys, here is a quick question. Main domain and child domain scenario in AD. One domain is in Florida we will call it domain1.com then we have a child domain for an office in Texas which we can call tx.domain1.com
The problem is when attempting to add users from the TX child domain to a universal group created in FL under the main domain, we get the following error: An active Directory error has occurred: The specified group type is invalid.
I have done some research on some knowledgebases and google searches and come up short. Anyone have any idea as to why this is happening and what I can do to resolve it? I also had a similar problem. I have an App that can import users of a group into a database app through AD. I created a universal group in FL under the main domain, then added users from the TX child domain to the universal group. I didn't get any errors but when I tried to sync the members of the group with my App it acted like the group was empty, even though I could see users in the group in AD users and computers. Any ideas?
Thanks Joe
