specified group type has occurred

Hey guys, here is a quick question. Main domain and child domain scenario in
AD. One domain is in Florida we will call it domain1.com then we have a
child domain for an office in Texas which we can call tx.domain1.com
The problem is when attempting to add users from the TX child domain to a
universal group created in FL under the main domain, we get the following
error: An active Directory error has occurred: The specified group type is
invalid.
I have done some research on some knowledgebases and google searches and
come up short. Anyone have any idea as to why this is happening and what I
can do to resolve it? I also had a similar problem. I have an App that can
import users of a group into a database app through AD. I created a
universal group in FL under the main domain, then added users from the TX
child domain to the universal group. I didn't get any errors but when I
tried to sync the members of the group with my App it acted like the group
was empty, even though I could see users in the group in AD users and
computers. Any ideas?
Thanks
Joe
