I think the KB for this is internal only D. When PSS gives it out they tell you that you are doing something dangerous and taking your directory into your own hands. Admittedly you can hurt yourself pretty well if you dork this up which I can see people doing with ldp pretty easily.
Personally I have done this quite a few times. I actually have an app in beta that easily makes the changes but will only display current perms for free, the part that mods the perms I haven't figured out what I will charge for. I am still tweaking the licensing piece of it, adding more and more protections so you can't hurt yourself with it (like modify the default ACEs that are there), and figuring out what I should charge. :o)

Indeed, you need to add ListContents on DO container in order to see the objects in it. This is tough. You need to:
1. Take ownership of the container 2. Add the required ACE 3. Give ownership back to SYSTEM
ADAM in R2 includes a version of ldp.exe that has a built-in gui acl editor. It can be used to perform the above tasks. R2 beta1 is available. If you can't get it, and want a copy of that binary, ask me offline (drop online dot).
If I remember correctly, we actually have a KB that describes the above process, and the new version of ldp is bundled with this KB.
