Reinstall 1st domain controller

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Some of this was already covered in the thread "First Domain Controller down".

I'm planning our upgrade from NT4 to 2003 AD. So far, my chosen method is
an inplace upgrade. Actually, none of my existing NT4 DC's are upgradable,
so I'll be creating a new DC1 as BDC, then promote to PDC, then upgrading to
2003.
Right away, I'll DCPromo DC2 to be the 2nd DC in the 2003 AD.
At that point, DC1 will have DNS (none locally now), and by default all of
the FSMO roles.

I would like to do a "do over" on DC1 once DC2 is up and solid (it's
actually running now hosting DHCP and WINS, just not a DC yet).
Reasons:
1) I don't feel I'll be able to create a large enough C: drive during the NT
install to satiisfy me. I plan on using the updated ATAPI.SYS file, but I
don't recall how large a partition it will let me create. The new hardware
has large drives, so I'd like a large C: drive to assure space long into the
future.
2) I've never been entirely comfortable upgrading operating systems,
especially a critical one like a domain controller. Yeah I know, it should
be fine. And, I have it running on this exact same domain in my test lab
right now (Virtual PC rules). But, there's always that doubt...
3) Even more nit-picky, it upgrades to c:\winnt, and I would like to be in
the Server 2003 standard configuration, \windows, etc. Yes, VERY nit-picky,
but I have one chance to get everything the way I like it.

My options as I see it, are to transfer all that's necessary to the other
Dc, reinstall DC1, and transfer back what's needed. Of particular note, it
will be the DNS server initially.
Or, resize the partition later using Server Magic (which I don't have), or
Ghost the drive (which I do have), then restore the Ghost image to a larger
partition. The \Winnt path remains, maybe I'll just have to live with that.

What pitfalls will I be up against for reinstall?
