I'd have to agree from a netbios point of view that what you say would be
possible. One of my troubleshooting steps on one occassion was to check the
WINS server registrations and there were indeed entries for the machine name
with the 2 active IP addresses.
But what surprises me is that AD allowed the operation in the first place.
There should have been a name conflict detected.
One thing that we have come to realize is that it's always a machine with a
DHCP address stepping on an existing machine that has a hard coded IP address.
