What you suggest definitely won't work -- hosts will only look at the second
(or third) DNS server listed in the TCP/IP configuration if there is no
response from the first.
What I would do is to create a secondary zone in DNS for the other domain's
zone. So, in your main network's DNS, create a secondary for the lab and in
the lab's DNS, create a secondary for the main network's.
