Note that this is all my opinion, you should test both software packages and
choose the one that works best for you.
In my experience with CA/ArcServe and Veritas/BackupExec/Netbackup I have
found that Veritas has a much better support system and you are more likely
to be able to talk with someone that can help you fix your issue. Be aware
though that if you have an overly large environment or are doing something
out of the ordinary then the general tech that you will get when calling
support may not be the best person to talk to. If you have a large
environment then get your Veritas support rep to find you the right people to
talk to so you can get the appropriate help when you call them.
As for CA's support, even when talking to the right people I have never been
impressed with their customer service skills and their technical skills
certainly don't make up for it.
As for the software, I have always been able to count on Veritas to get the
job done and I am confidant that I will be able to restore a system that I've
backed up with a Veritas product. I can not say the same thing about
CA/Arcserve.
