Nah, just like Laura said, it's just the Schema Partition. After all,
logically if just the Schema gets modified, why would the whole database
replicate anyway? Most of this info is in the MS Press and the MOC
Courseware books.
Here's about the transports
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/default.asp?url=/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/distrib/dsbh_rep_gkif.asp
About replication behavior:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/distrib/dsbh_rep_ayla.asp
And here's the main section you can bounce thru:
Active Directory Replication - Reskit:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/default.asp?url=/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/distrib/dsbh_rep_jfbg.asp
Keep in mind, out of the 3 main partitions, the Schema and the Config
containers are text based data, hence why the SMTP connector can handle that
sort of data, since its text based. The Domain partition is a combo of text
based data and blob data (binary data). SMTP cannot handle that. Hence why
with a slow or asynch WAN link, the IP (RCP based connector) faulters, and
you'll need the SMTP connector. The RPC IP connector can handle domain blob
data. SMTP cannot. Hence again, why if you use the SMTP connector, you need
separate domains on each side.
These are Win2k links, but replication is very similar if not the same (W2k3
is now attribute based and has a couple extra partitions).
Maybe these above links can help Scumbag in his quest.
