After re-formatting and re-installing Windows Server 2003 to correct an
erroneous DC promotion, I am unable to use the same Netbios name. I
originally meant to run dcpromo and come up to the domain as a child domain,
but chose the incorrect checkbox. When I tried to demote the server and rerun
dcpromo, I received numerous error messages. I then reformatted and
re-installed Windows Server 2003 and attempted to join the domain and
received user errors. Upon running dcpromo again, I was successfully joined
to the proper domain, but it prompted me to use a different Netbios, even
though my child domain controller was the same. How can I remove the
pre-existing Netbios name and then use the one that I would like to have
associated to my child domain? I have full enterprise administrator
privledges on both the child and the parent domain controllers.
