Re: No sound!

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

If you have installed the latest driver from the manufacturer, I would
suspect that your sound card has failed.

You did mention pulling the card and re-inserting. Which makes me assume a
PCI or PCI-e card.

I did that. I even re-set the sound card. Still, nothing.

Ok, I checked that. I only have 2 devices. Creative SB X-Fi and
Unimodem
Half-Duplex Audio Device.

Here's what caused this problem: Device Manager wasn't listing any of
my
devices. I logged on as Administrator open REGEDIT and go to Local
Machine,
System, CurrentControlSet. Right clicked Enum and took ownership and
ensured
Administrator has full rights. I deleted the entire Enum tree! Under
CurrentControlSet created a new key called Enum. Closed the registry
and
rebooted the PC - When the PC booted up, PnP kicked in a repopulated
the
Device Manager.

Also, I ran a diagnostic from my Soundblaster software. The Windows
Multmedia test failed and the DirectSound test failed.

My speaker icon is missing from the bottom right of my system tray
and
when I
go to Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, it says
there's
no
sound device. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Go to Start > Control Panel > System. (In Windows not the MCE 10 ft
interface).
Click the hardware tab. Then click the Device Manager button.
Expand the Sound, video and game controllers branch.

What do you have?

Have you made any hardware changes?
Have you done a clean install of Windows and not installed the
Motherboard
drivers?
