Sally - first, WEP is not safe and you should use at LEAST WPA for
wireless security. Call your friend and have them make that change.
If you are trying to use MAC address filtering to compensate for the
lack of security with WEP, any determined hacker could probably
spoof a MAC address and cause trouble. WPA2 (or at least WPA) should
be used. You can add MAC filtering on top of WPA2, but using it with
WEP and thinking you are safe, well, you are not.
Your first step is to change from WEP to WPA2/WPA.

Have been using media center with an extender with windows xp successfullyBarb Bowman
until a friend recently added security to my wireless network. Have added the
WEP address to media center extender and it recognizes the network but
continue to get the message that the extender cannot connect to the media
centre PC. For other devices (eg Wii) I have added an MAC address to my
filter list. Is there a MAC address for an extender? What do I have to do in
this situation to have the extender recognize the PC again? Any ideas? Thanks
for your help.
