I mean receiving only analog channels such as channels 2-67 using Media Center.
A converter box will not help you in any way since it is designed for OTA digital signals and not for analog or for cable digital signals in fact using it will prevent you from receiving anything from your cable provider.

Your comments match what I originally found other net in non-windows groups. While I have always built most of my own PC's I have no clue as to what " Have you tried yet to configure analog cable signals only from Cox using MC?" means ?.
Since my last post I ordered the coupons from the Gov for I think converting new digital back to analog for those people that still have rabbit ears...etc
If I put this converter box inline just before the feed into the MCE computer...will this make it work ?
If not is there a way to "update" MCE to a newer version with out a complete install of a new OS and all the reinstallations of many, many programs that would involve ?
Thanks again for all your help on this....

"Walford" <nobody@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:OjdVivK5JHA.6004@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxCox in your location is apparently using Multicast so that your old TVs will still receive analog channels and so that their digital only tuner boxes can receive the same program using QAM whch MCE 2005 does not support and I don't think ever will.
Also since you don't know that tuner came with your PC it is very possible that can not even receive either OTA or QAM digital programs.
Also with MCE2005 in order to receive digital signals with a digital tuner you must already have a separate analog tuner configured.
Have you tried yet to configure analog cable signals only from Cox using MC?
"Tim" <trinaz@xxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:#cVhsRK5JHA.4404@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI am assuming this means my version of XP Media Center does not support QAM protocol if that's what Cox is using now ??
Thanks for all your help..

"Walford" <nobody@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:uZD0OaJ5JHA.2456@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSince your other TVs are working fine with a direct cable line on analog channels your Cox provider has not gone all digital. Since the Cox tech said the signal strength for the cable line connected directly to your TV has adequate signal strength the reason you cannot obtain digital signals is because standard MC does not currently cable company digital broadcasts.
Try setting up Vista MC for analog cable only.
I have seen other Guide problems reported by MC users in Arizona so be sure you try both your old Zip code in addition to your new Zip code as suggested by Barb.
"Tim" <trinaz@xxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:eKGj8PI5JHA.1716@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxCurrent zipcode is 85050...previous was 85018...we have been in this house since late July of last year...both XP MC Guide and four other TV's have been working fine...The Media Center PC is hooked up directly to a cable line..two other working TV's split off this line...the Cox installer said all lines...including the cable line to Media Center...have excellent signal strength. Also...in MCE we can and do get a good signal for normal TV watching on the monitor...only Guide is not working with the constant error messages of "no data available" Again tho...we get excellent reception and quality on all channels through MCE's "live TV"
So...I would have to think the signal is coming in...but MCE Guide simply will not update since 1) either the Cox digital switch, or 2) since the install and uninstall of IE 8 ?? Of course...I know it could also be something else totally unrelated...but that's all that changed on the computer around the time we started to get "no data available" in MCE Guide.
I will have to check on the tuner in the MCE machine...is it listed anywhere in devices or system info...etc...not easy to open the box and look inside where the PC is located...?
Thanks, Tim
"Walford" <nobody@xxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:eEBOy4H5JHA.3304@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxTim,
What is your Zip code?
What make/model of tuner do you have from Cox or is your cable connected directly to you PC tuner card?
What make/model of tuner card are you using?
Since neither standard MC on XP or on Vista support digital cable QAM protocol you would not receive any channels from your cable line if Cox truly shifted to all digital signals and not to multicast analog and digital signals.
If you also have a regular TV connected to your cable line can you receive any analog channels(2,4,5,6 etc) with it?
"Tim" <trinaz@xxxxxxxxx> wrote in message news:Oja2yiH5JHA.1716@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxOk...should have included more info...yes Cox has both digital and analog sources in media center...neither one works...get same result..no channels in Media Center. zap2it.com shows all the channels we used to have.
Has worked flawlessly for over two years with the Cox setup...Cox says no changes to signal
A number of web posts have said that it is in the Media center programming...same problem...but the technical side of those posts is beyond me...only know they say the problem was corrected in Vista and the new beta for whatever is the next Windows ?
Post in point: http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/03/19/microsoft-restores-guide-data-for-atsc-channels-in-media-center/
Also...at about the dame time...we accidently downloaded and installed IE 8...which caused major problems with many programs...including a persistent program that tried to install each time we restarted XP (Media Center related)...corruption and failure of the Weather Channel desktop app we had used for over two years (Weather Channel says it's a problem with IE 8 and they are trying to fix it) and a few others.
We uninstalled 8 and reinstalled I.E....all other problems we had were eliminated...except the media center program guide ??
Still without Media center Guide and programming...?
Any suggestions to help from here will be greatly appreciated...??
Is there a way to reinstall/repair the Media Center program or app ?
Thanks, Tim

happens if you try a neighboring zipcode inside MCE (and check
zap2it)?

Since my cable company switched to a digital signal...my Media Center will--
no longer update...all previous guide channels are empty !
I have found a number of posts regarding this in third party web
sites...mostly assigning blame to the MCE 5 versions inability to process
digital as opposed to analog signals.
No changes have been made (other than Cox changing it's signal to
digital)...Guide update begins the download but then fails. All other
internet connections work fine...
Just no guide listings (disappeared) and no ability to update (download)
guide...!
